What is the UBJ Community?

UBJ Community is a multi-dimensional entertainment ecosystem based in Johannesburg, South Africa, that bridges the gap between professional performance and community upliftment.

Founded in 2012 by the veteran entertainer Uncle Black Jack, the organization has evolved from a traditional booking agency into a global digital and physical hub for artists.

It operates through three primary branches:

1. The Entertainment Agency

UBJ Community serves as a premier talent provider for events, corporate functions, and parties. They manage and book a wide variety of professional performers, including:

  • Magicians and Illusionists

  • Face Painters

  • Jugglers and Variety Artists

2. UBJ Community Platform (The Magic School)

Originally founded as LAM (Learn the Art of Magic) in 2016, the platform rebranded in 2025 to offer a comprehensive “Learn, Earn, and Connect” experience. It has mentored over 1,000 magicians worldwide through:

  • The Locker Room: A secure online portal for video lessons and curriculum tasks.

  • Gamified Growth: Students earn UBJ Coins and digital badges by completing tasks to move up in rank.

  • Hybrid Learning: Weekly online workshops (Wednesdays) and live, face-to-face classes at their Alberton studio (Tuesdays and Thursdays).

  • The Connect Social Wall: A private, Facebook-style network for performers to collaborate and network safely.

3. Social Mentorship & Outreach

A core pillar of the community is its commitment to the youth. Uncle Black Jack uses magic and performance art as a vehicle for “edutainment” to guide young people. The mission is to provide mentorship that builds self-esteem and keeps the youth away from:

  • Drug abuse

  • Early childhood pregnancy

  • Crime

The Economy: UBJ Coins

Unique to this community is its internal currency, UBJ Coins. Students earn these coins by completing their training tasks. While these coins cannot be withdrawn as cash, they are used within the platform to “purchase” advanced courses, magic kits, and rank upgrades, teaching students the value of professional investment and discipline.
